Biography

Michael Holland has been making art for over 30 years. The depth and vibrance in his unique color usage in his paintings are the result of an extensive education in art history and color philosophies mixed with his dreams, experiences and his own unique perception of the external landscape.

Mr. Holland is widely known for his brilliant use of color in landscapes that could exist in various regions of the world but defy true identity.

The light quality of his painting is usually that of late afternoon or early morning with extended shadows that inherence the conspicuous absence of any life forms other than the landscapes themselves. Strangely off centered houses with precipitously peaked roofs incongruently placed on structures standing in lusciously colored meadows or fields that appear to have grown on their own unhindered by the hand of man or abandoned in the ?Äúnick of time?Äù and then framed by translucent light sources emanated from richly colored skies and mountains. The viewer is only allowed to see the outside of this world with windows and doors rarely offered. The atmosphere created in these paintings is that the only person present is the viewer.

Mr. Holland has received grants from the National Endowment of The Arts and the California Arts Council. His work has appeared on Network Television and is collected Internationally. Michael has a Bachelors Degree in environmental sculpture, a Masters degree in Arts and Consciousness and has pursued advanced studies in the psychology of creativity.
